The Medical Faculty provides various funding instruments to support research projects, including seed funding, grants for early-career researchers, and strategic initiatives to strengthen research infrastructure.
Early-Career Researcher Support
We offer targeted programs and initiatives to support young scientists in building their academic careers. This includes structured career development opportunities, funding for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and access to key research networks.

Extramural Funding
In addition to faculty-led programs, researchers can benefit from prestigious external funding sources, such as the Heinemann Kosing Foundation and the Medical Faculty’s Dissertation Award, which recognize and support outstanding research achievements.
Good Scientific Practice
Adherence to good scientific practice is a cornerstone of trustworthy research. In accordance with the guidelines set by the German Research Foundation (DFG), all universities and research institutions applying for DFG funding must establish and enforce rules to safeguard scientific integrity, as recommended by the DFG.
Ruhr University Bochum has implemented its own set of guidelines to solidify these principles. These not only outline procedures for addressing scientific misconduct but also provide a framework for international collaborations and partnerships outside the EU. Additionally, university-wide compliance policies offer clear behavioral standards.
For inquiries about scientific integrity or in cases of suspected misconduct, independent ombudspersons are available to provide confidential support. The university also offers comprehensive resources on topics such as plagiarism and other critical issues.
