Review of the 8th “Day of General Practice” at the RUB

On 20.04.2024, the 8th “Day of General Practice” took place at the Ruhr University Bochum under the motto “Practice meets research - research meets practice”.

The Department of General Medicine (AM RUB) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the Institute of General Medicine and Outpatient Healthcare at Witten/Herdecke University jointly hosted this training day. After a warm welcome by Prof. Vollmar and Prof. Huenges together with their Witten colleagues Prof. Weckbecker and Prof. Mortsiefer in the lecture hall of the Medical Faculty, the five workshop sessions began.

Collegial exchange in the “research workshop”

The approximately 100 participating GPs and their practice teams were given an insight into the interprofessional, digital and sustainable “practice of the future”, among other things. The training offered by GPs for GPs included topics such as evidence-based medicine with updates on diabetes therapy, heart failure or dementia, prioritization in multi-medication, an introduction to the concept of Positive Health or Advance Care Planning.

There was also the opportunity to discuss current research topics with academic staff in a “research workshop” and to contribute scientific questions from GP practice.

Workshops on the workload of MFAs and train-the-trainer offers

Another focus was on the work of medical assistants: special workshops were held on topics such as the workload of medical assistants and how to deal with challenging situations.

The program was supplemented by train-the-trainer offers for basic and advanced training, from hands-on courses for joint examinations to teaching practice training for the students' block internships.

A short excerpt from the evaluation of the participants with feedback such as “It was great that there was so much exchange at eye level!”, “Brilliantly motivated and great concept” underlines that mutual further training among GPs makes sense and is experienced as enriching.
